Religious argument turns deadly: Camden man gets 30 years for murder

In Camden, New Jersey, a man has been sentenced for the brutal 2019 murder of his friend. The incident occurred after a heated argument about religion escalated into violence. The convicted, 45-year-old Corey James Malloy, was found guilty of stomping his friend, Nathaniel Perry, 57, to death.

Deadly Argument

Unfolding on the morning of September 26, 2019, Camden police responded to a distress call around 8:30 a.m. on the 1200 block of Mechanic Street, where they found Nathaniel Perry lying unresponsive in a pool of blood. The severity of his injuries indicated a brutal assault. Witnesses reported seeing Malloy stomp on Perry. They intervened to stop the attack, but their efforts were tragically too late to save Perry from his fatal injuries.

Malloy’s Brutal Attack and Evidence

According to records, once Perry was on the ground, Malloy repeatedly stomped on Perry’s head until he was unconscious, resulting in his death less than a month later. Following Perry’s death on October 16, 2019, while in hospice care, Malloy’s charges were upgraded to murder.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Malloy’s sneakers tested positive for Perry’s blood, further corroborating the witness accounts and physical evidence linking him to the crime. It was determined that Perry died from injuries due to blunt force trauma.

Sentencing

Found guilty by a jury, Malloy has been sentenced to a 65-year prison term and must serve 85% of it to be eligible for parole. The lengthy sentence aims to serve as a deterrent against the commission of such acts of violence in the future.
