“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson defends faith and calls out corruption

Actor Faces Backlash from Fellow Christians

“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson has drawn criticism from some Christians who struggle to separate his on-screen roles from his faith. In a recent interview with GQ, Ritchson revealed that he often faces backlash for portraying characters involved in actions deemed inappropriate by religious conservatives.

“People have this weird relationship with fictional characters,” he said, addressing criticism for scenes involving unmarried intimacy. “I doubt that’s going to be part of the conversation when I’m standing at the pearly gates.”

Speaking Out Against Religious Hypocrisy

Ritchson, who has been open about his Christianity, has also criticized aspects of organized religion. In a Hollywood Reporter cover story last year, he described modern Christianity as “the most vitriolic tribe,” contradicting the values Jesus preached.

He pointed to the unwavering Christian support for Donald Trump as an example, calling the former president “a rapist and a con man.” Ritchson expressed disbelief that many churches treat Trump as a moral figure despite his controversial past.

Condemning Church Corruption

The actor did not hold back in condemning ongoing scandals within the church. He labeled the cover-ups of sexual abuse “repulsive” and criticized religious institutions for failing to hold perpetrators accountable.

“I can’t for one second support the Catholic Church while there are still cardinals, bishops, and priests being passed around with known pedophilic tendencies,” he stated.

Ritchson Calls Out Matt Gaetz

Beyond religious matters, Ritchson also took aim at Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, whom he attended school with. He described the politician as untrustworthy, criticizing voters in Florida’s panhandle for continuing to support him.

“That motherf—. We are adversaries,” Ritchson said bluntly. He questioned Gaetz’s promises to pardon criminals and expressed frustration with the political system, calling Bernie Sanders “a hero” but acknowledging his limited effectiveness.

“Reacher” Season 3 Premiere Approaches

Despite the controversy, Ritchson remains focused on his acting career. He will reprise his role as Jack Reacher in the third season of Amazon Prime Video’s hit series, set to premiere on February 20.
