Pew study highlights value gaps between Harris and Trump supporters

The Pew Research Center conducted an in-depth analysis revealing significant differences between supporters of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. These differences are most pronounced in religious beliefs, foreign policy values, and views on the role of government.

Foreign Policy Views

On foreign policy, Harris supporters are more inclined towards global cooperation. A significant 79% of them believe Washington should consider the interests of allies, even if it requires compromises. In contrast, only 40% of Trump supporters share this view. Additionally, while 76% of Trump supporters insist that U.S. policies should maintain America as the sole military superpower, only 55% of Harris supporters agree. Furthermore, 42% of Harris supporters, compared to just 22% of Trump supporters, find it acceptable if another country became as militarily powerful as the U.S.

Views on U.S. Military

A majority of both groups agree that a strong U.S. military makes the world safer, with 83% of Trump supporters and 68% of Harris supporters endorsing this belief. However, 25% of Harris supporters feel a strong U.S. military has no impact on global safety.

Religious and Governmental Values

Religious values also show a deep divide. A large portion of Harris supporters (87%) believe religion should be kept separate from government policies, a view shared by just 55% of Trump supporters. Conversely, 45% of Trump supporters believe government policies should support religious values, compared to only 13% of Harris supporters.

Family Values

Family values differ sharply as well, with 60% of Trump supporters asserting that society benefits when marriage and children are prioritized. Only 17% of Harris supporters agree, while 81% of them believe society is equally well-off if individuals have priorities beyond marriage and children.
