The Indiana Secretary of State has identified Jessica Klikas, an elementary school teacher based in Fort Wayne, Ind., as the owner of The Satanic Temple Indiana, which was formed in 2019. Even though the temple was dissolved in March 2020, its website as well as Instagram and Twitter feeds reveal that it is still operational.
The Daily Wire reports:
Jessica Klikas is a teacher at Haverhill Elementary School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is listed as a staff member in the school’s staff directory as well as the Southwest Allen County Schools’ district website. Her LinkedIn says she is a fourth grade teacher at Southwest Allen County Schools, where she has worked since 2019.
Meanwhile, Klikas also owned The Satanic Temple Indiana, according to Indiana Secretary of State records, REAL News Michiana first reported.
She started The Satanic Temple Indiana, also known as Porta Infernum (Gate of Hell) LLC, in 2019 the month before she began working as a fourth grade teacher, according to the records. The LLC was dissolved in March, 2020, the records show, right around the time COVID-19 lockdowns began across the country.
However, the temple appears to still be operating, according to its website and Twitter and Instagram feeds.
Klikas was also featured in several posts on The Satanic Temple Indiana’s Instagram page, REAL News Michiana reported, but those posts now appear to have been deleted.
The school district defended hiring Klikas by stating that everyone should be free to pursue their preferred religious belief as long as teachers do not try to impose their religious opinions on children and deviate from the school curriculum.
“We do not ask our teachers, or any employees, about their religious beliefs,” read an email from Southwest Allen County Schools’ Director of Human Resources, REAL News Michiana reported. “Per our School Board Policy, ‘The Board of Education of SACS believes that all persons ought to be free to follow their own religious beliefs, without government interference, according to the dictates of their own consciences and in accordance with law.’ As a public school corporation, our teachers are expected to teach the approved curriculum and they are not to impose their personal beliefs onto their students.”
A similar incident had been discovered earlier this year.
An Illinois school district defended an elementary school hosting a “Satan club” after the strange extracurricular activity prompted outrage from parents.
The “After School Satan Club” was sponsored by the Satanic Temple of the United States, which says the clubs are a response to the Christian Good News Clubs at public schools across the country. Flyers for the club were displayed in the lobby of the Jane Addams Elementary School in Moline.
The club was advertised for first grade to fifth grade children. The Satanic Temple claimed the purpose of the clubs was not to convert children to Satanism.
