About Faith on View
The name Faith on View emerged over a decade ago when I, Rondall, was trying to establish an organization that would encourage the arts within the church community. But, over the years the name became a moniker I sometimes use on internet boards, sites, and even in video games. In many ways, it is a concise statement of what I am about. Honestly, as an artist and scholar, it is a bit nerve-racking to put my faith “out there” for the public to see. Religion and contemporary art have a very uncomfortable relationship, sometimes with good reason (from both sides). Finally, though, I conceded that transparency is one of my core values, as such this website seeks to be transparent.
This website was conceived to be a reflection of who and what I am, what interests me, what inspires me, and what disturbs me. My wife, Pamela, joined Faith on View in 2014 and we transitioned the site into a joint blog where we wrote about the things in life that hold deep interest for us and in some ways define us. Pamela is a photographer who also takes her faith very seriously, so there is a lot of consonance in what we write. These are the things we talk about in a large part of our day-to-day life.
At the beginning of 2020, we decided to once again expand our Faith on View family with a few contributing authors whose perspectives resonate with our own: Scott, Paul, Vershal, & Scot. We don’t all agree on everything. We are all Christian, but we worship in five different denominations ranging from Eastern Orthodox to Pentecostal. At least one of us views Ronald Reagan as a hero while at least one of us views him as a blight. But, despite these differences, we all seek truth, goodness, and beauty in our own ways. We all question. And we all, at times, feel a bit out of place in our culture.
We have struggled to define what this project of love, Faith on View, is all about. The website’s tagline starting in 2011 was “Musings on Art, Faith, Culture, and the Pedestrian.” Which can cover just about everything- and we do cover a lot of ground here. As we worked to define who we serve and what we do on this site we narrowed it down to, “We help Christians live and love in the tension of faith.” This messy beautiful life of faith that Christians walk is often not about clear black and white answers. It is about leaning into existential questions and living in the tension that arises as we seek to live out the principles and truths that drive our faith. Further, it is about living in love because we are loved and exhibiting that love selflessly as it was so profoundly demonstrated for us two millennia ago on Golgatha.
Additionally, Faith on View has expanded to be the internet home of several projects (and likely more in the future). The first such project was for speaking and workshops that Rondall & Pamela lead at churches, colleges, and other organizations. The second project was Faith on View’s comprehensive rankings of Christian colleges. No, it isn’t perfect, no rankings are. But, it is a great starting point for families looking into Christian education. Then came our extensive listing of Art & Faith Resources. In the summer of 2020, we began the Faith on View Daily Newsletter. This newsletter curates the best Christian news and commentary from over 200 websites to your email on a daily basis. Finally, we launched the Faith on View Daily. This section of the website creates a web home for the latest Christian news and commentary in a single digital home. Faith on View Daily intentionally curates content from a wide variety of perspectives so that Christians can witness a broad intersection of ideas and perspectives on issues of concern to Christians.
We welcome you to Faith on View and hope you will spend time exploring. Learn more about our authors below.
Mission: We help Christians live and love in the tension of faith through news, commentary, and resources representing broad Christian perspectives.
