Trump’s Gaza plan: Real estate dreams or humanitarian nightmare?

On Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump posted a music video across multiple social media platforms, promoting his vision to transform Gaza into a luxury resort. The video, titled “Gaza 2025: What’s Next,” showcased AI-generated imagery of destroyed buildings turning into palm-lined beaches and high-rises.

The video quickly took a bizarre turn, featuring bearded men in bikinis, a golden Trump statue, Elon Musk being showered with cash, and a shirtless Trump drinking beer with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A dance song in the background proclaimed, “No more tunnels, no more fear. Trump Gaza is finally here.”

While many dismissed the video as a troll aimed at provoking outrage, Trump’s plan to remove Palestinians from Gaza and redevelop the area is not a joke.

Trump and Kushner Push for Gaza’s “Redevelopment”

Trump has repeatedly discussed his vision for Gaza, describing its potential as a high-end tourist destination. In an October 7, 2024, interview, he lamented that Palestinians had never “taken advantage” of the area’s natural beauty. At a February 4, 2025, press conference, Trump declared that the U.S. would “take over the Gaza Strip” and make it “better than Monaco.” Netanyahu publicly backed the idea.

Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, echoed these sentiments in a February 15, 2024, discussion at Harvard’s Middle East Initiative. He described Gaza’s coastline as “very valuable” and suggested relocating Palestinians while “cleaning up” the area. Kushner also proposed diplomatic efforts to persuade Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinian refugees.

Plans for White House Summit and Real Estate Investment

Despite global backlash, the Trump administration is actively pursuing redevelopment plans. Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, recently revealed discussions about organizing a real estate summit at the White House. According to The Wall Street Journal, the event would showcase major developers, architects, and business leaders, with “large cranes and other showy pieces of equipment” as a public demonstration of commitment.

Kushner has also taken steps to secure funding. His private equity firm, Affinity Partners, has raised $4.6 billion, including $2 billion from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Critics argue that these funds serve as a financial pipeline that benefits Kushner and Trump.

Critics Condemn the Plan as “Ethnic Cleansing”

Trump’s proposal has been met with strong condemnation from human rights organizations, Palestinian leaders, and Middle Eastern governments. Many describe the plan as a form of ethnic cleansing, forcibly displacing Palestinians to pave the way for luxury real estate. Arab nations have rejected Kushner’s suggestion that neighboring countries absorb Palestinian refugees.

Domestically, Trump’s supporters frame the plan as an economic opportunity, while detractors view it as a blatant land grab with serious ethical and legal implications. As the administration moves forward, international opposition is expected to intensify.
